Perspectives: 2021 Summer Interns

For the past few months, we’ve been fortunate to work with a brilliant class of interns, who have worked hard and provided us with valuable perspectives. In honor of the final week of their internships, we’re sharing the perspectives of four interns.

Klaudia Bak | Construction Intern

How familiar were you with Bozzuto prior to applying to the internship program, and why did you choose Bozzuto?

I had chatted with Bozzuto representatives for two years in a row at my university’s career fair, so I knew quite a bit about Bozzuto. From the moment I walked up to Bozzuto’s booth my freshman year, I felt a personability that really attracted me to the company. As I continued to meet more Bozzuto employees, I realized that this personable quality was an integral part of Bozzuto’s culture and was excited about the prospect of an internship with them. I chose to pursue an internship with Bozzuto to work with great people on amazing projects.

What has been the biggest takeaway from your internship?

No two days in construction are the same! There were so many days that I went into work planning to do one thing, only to have a wrench thrown in the works (surprise inspection, thunderstorms, etc.). I learned to appreciate the fast-paced environment of being on a job site, as well as the opportunities and lessons that came when I least expected them.

What would you tell a student interested in Bozzuto’s internship program?

Reach out to Bozzuto in whatever way you can, whether it’s in an email, at a career fair, etc. It’s difficult to express just how special Bozzuto’s atmosphere is to someone who’s never experienced it, but getting to know the people behind the company is a great way of getting a glimpse at what it’s like to work here. Bozzuto’s made a great impression on me throughout the internship process, and I’m sure that any prospective interns would also have an amazing experience.

Victoria Hardy | Brand Marketing Intern

How familiar were you with Bozzuto prior to applying to the internship program, and why did you choose Bozzuto?

About three years ago, my sister was an intern at Bozzuto. She would come home from work with stories to tell about this amazing company that she was working for. She spoke about the kindness she encountered from fellow interns and associates, the inclusivity and the opportunities to learn. I chose to intern at Bozzuto because I wanted a similar experience. From the interviewing process to the internship itself, the culture at Bozzuto has definitely lived up to my expectations.

What has been the biggest takeaway from your internship?

Always be open to learning more. Whether you’re learning from your managers, associates or interns, keep an open mind. I admire Bozzuto for amplifying the voices of their employees and implementing their ideas. This creates a strong company.

What would you tell a student interested in Bozzuto’s internship program?

This is an experience of a lifetime. Get ready to learn more and meet great people!

Cameron Cary | Urban Alliance BMC Intern

How familiar were you with Bozzuto prior to applying to the internship program, and why did you choose Bozzuto?

Prior to joining Bozzuto, I was fairly unfamiliar with the company other than seeing the logo frequently in my area. I had noticed more and more developments being built by Bozzuto and became curious how they were able to roll out various projects. After doing more research and understanding the core values that Bozzuto promised to provide to their customers, I knew I wanted to apply for a position. Since many of the company’s values align with my own, I knew I would enjoy working in such an inclusive and enriching environment.

What has been the biggest takeaway from your internship?

I appreciate the team effort to ensure a productive environment. Before my internship, I was oblivious to the many ways someone’s talents can be used to market and run a property successfully. I have been able to use my skills in marketing to better support my Bozzuto community. And in areas where I struggle, I can turn to a co-worker who I know will always be there for support no matter the issue.

What would you tell a student interested in Bozzuto’s internship program?

I would let any student interested in the leasing industry know that Bozzuto is the place for you! As long as you are dedicated to the community and your residents, your work will never feel like work. Bozzuto employees uphold every attribute in their standards and exemplify their dedication on a daily basis.

Blake Smith | Development Intern

How familiar were you with Bozzuto prior to applying to the internship program, and why did you choose Bozzuto?

I learned about Bozzuto through my roommate, who was an owner’s representative with Bozzuto Construction Company prior to returning to school. I chose Bozzuto because I knew the company would give me plenty of experience due to close-knit teams and exposure to senior leadership throughout the four Bozzuto companies. I was also familiar with Bozzuto’s emphasis on culture, which is a very important factor for me in choosing a company to work for.

What has been the biggest takeaway from your internship?

My biggest takeaway has been that development is truly a multidisciplinary profession. For a project to be successful, the financials have to work, but the design is equally as essential. As a developer, you must consider the project’s overall place within the community. That’s something I think Bozzuto is very conscious of and does a great job with.

What would you tell a student interested in Bozzuto’s internship program?

I would tell them to learn as much as they can about the company. There are plentiful resources on the Bozzuto website, and many people in the company would be more than happy to hop on a call to talk about their experiences. If you do intern with Bozzuto, I recommend that you take advantage of your time with the company and get exposure to all aspects of the development, construction and management processes.
